Many Newspapers, like the Poughkeepsie Journal, often uses FOIL in its daily and investigative reporting.
Last June, the Journal submitted a request to the Poughkeepsie City School District, seeking records related to its former interim assistant superintendent of finance, Stanley Bronski. Bronski had been accused of meeting a prostitute at district offices, asking her to "service him" there, and refusing to pay her when she declined, according to Journal archives.

According to Bronski's settlement agreement and general release, dated June 24:
- The district intended to seek Bronski's just cause termination.
- Bronski agreed to resign on June 24.
- Bronski remained on paid administrative leave until July 2.
- Bronski was not allowed on school district property except with prior approval from Williams, who would arrange for him to be "escorted to collect his personal belongings."
- The district agreed to expunge from his personnel file "any and all reports" relating to sexual allegations with a female adult.
- Any records concerning the district's investigation "of allegations relating to sexual acts with another female adult" would be placed in a file marked "Stanley Bronski Legal Matter" and not disclosed to any third parties unless the district was required to do so by law.
- Bronski waived any claims he might have or had against the district, including but not limited to any claims of age discrimination in employment.
