Susan Filgueras is not too pleased with the response she received from the state Department of Transportation a few weeks ago.
In April, the Tomkins Cove resident filed a Freedom of Information Law request with the state asking about fires, derailments, leaks, spills and other mishaps caused by CSX trains travelling through several Rockland County towns near her home.
All she got back, in a May 3 response from the DOT, was a report on a minor derailment in 2011.
“A diligent search of our files failed to reveal any other responsive records,” came the response from the state.
But Filgueras says she knows that there have been fires along the CSX tracks because she helped put one out in her father’s backyard. And, she has in her files a May 2015 report from The Journal News/lohud about a brush fire in Haverstraw apparently caused by sparks from a passing train. ......
